The fogbow

The Baltic Sea had a surprise  in store for us in September: a very special natural phenomenon.

Well, why drive to the Baltic Sea coast if it is so beautiful here? Answer: because it was such a beautiful warm late summer this entire month of September. So why not?

The town of Kalmar is an hour and fifteen minutes drive from here. There is a bridge to the island of Öland in the Baltic Sea. That island seems to have the most hours of sunshine in all of Europe. And yes, the sun was shining brightly.

But on the other side of the island, right above the sea, the sun disappeared behind a fairytale mist.

Then we noticed something very strange in the sky above the sea:

Was it a cloud? No. Was it a rainbow? Neither.

We took pictures and only when we got home we discovered on Google what it was:

A rare fogbow!
