March 10
It’s cold, and the fire in the stove has just gone out. Bedtime, but not quite yet. The wind is howling around the house. The first days of spring with bright sun and blooming crocuses have given way to a renewed winter. That’s how it always goes here. In March. And in April. And then in May, the first week of May, suddenly you toss that winter coat onto the back seat of the car and don’t put it on again until November.
But we’re not there yet. Maybe tomorrow will bring sunshine again. With the same strong east wind as today. Brrrr. Today, two times we saw a group of deer running. And the neighbor was thrilled about the three young moose that crossed the forest path when he came walking with his dog. He grabbed his phone to take a picture, and they were gone. So, no photo, but a feeling of happiness that lingered for days.
We see the squirrels every day at this time of year. At the end of winter, they have run out of their own supplies and eat the sunflower seeds of the birds.
Now just one more round through the garden with the dog, and then off to bed. It’s already getting light so early in the morning. With a bit of luck, I’ll see the sun rise above the lake tomorrow.
